about
Starfire is the first single from Deep Dark River's new album, due summer 2019.
Starfire story fragment:
[The guardian walks unscathed and unchallenged through the mighty heights of the ancient forests. His wandering leads him to a mountainside, where the trees begin to thin. It is here he gazes upon the vastness of the open night sky - a million lights blazing bright. From the depths of that inky black comes a brightness that soars across the sky - plummeting from the oceans of space and into the forest beyond the rivers. A mighty sound rages across the lands and the ground shakes with the impact. A chain of events begin that lead to the end of this prosperous age.]
lyrics
[lyrics]:
There lays a place where the lands reach the stars.
Unchallenged he treads alone and afar.
His feet fall silent in the woods so gnarled in age.
Guided to the crags above, seeking the final days.
He knew as he strode, that the day had finally come
When all the world began to unwind and become undone
No roots were there to bar his way, nor were woodland beasts
For they alone knew the path he trod, so he then passed in peace...
And as he reached the summit, the starfire burned so bright
The whole of the world, basking in it’s light.
Oh, the words had long escaped him
In the calmness of that place
And all his world fell burning
In an arc of beauteous grace.
Oh, the vast and open voids cast forth a brightened blaze
Fueled by worlds beyond the stars, beyond our ancients’ gaze.
Soaring through skies of dusk, smoking tendrils trail behind.
The ground it shook and the fires awoke, deep within his mind.
And the roar that was a whisper grew vile and enraged,
The whole of the world basking in its light
Oh, the words had long escaped him
In the calmness of that place
For what he gaze upon that night
Was the end of everything...
And oh, the words, they long escaped him
In the horror of that place
And all his world fell burning
All and all...

A beautiful journey from start to finish, with perfectly placed moments of gentility amidst the rhythmic intrigue and blast beats of their guest drummer. jsteadmanfan
