Of Primeval Ilk

The dusk gives way to the first of dread rays
And the morning mists rise high
The hungry and weak arise from pursuit
Deep in that fabled land.
His crown a mossy mass of grey;
An ancient one older than time.
Towering tall; silvery bulk a’flow
A tempest of all the world and all of its woes...
Rise up and take your throne
Power is yours alone to behold
Great old antlered one,
Protector of the realms of old.
No fear has ever pierced his breast.
For his foes have met none such as he.
Tall as the great old trees he treads.
His towering lands a'sway in peace.
What do you seek?
In all your long years, you’ve failed to see.
Rise up and take your throne-
Power is yours alone to behold.
Great old antlered one,
Protector of the realms of old...

Starfire
05:52
|
|||
There lays a place where the lands reach the stars.
Unchallenged he treads alone and afar.
His feet fall silent in the woods so gnarled in age.
Guided to the crags above, seeking the final days.
He knew as he strode, that the day had finally come
When all the world began to unwind and become undone
No roots were there to bar his way, nor were woodland beasts
For they alone knew the path he trod, so he then passed in peace...
And as he reached the summit, the starfire burned so bright
The whole of the world, basking in it’s light.
Oh, the words had long escaped him
In the calmness of that place
And all his world fell burning
In an arc of beauteous grace.
Oh, the vast and open voids cast forth a brightened blaze
Fuelled by worlds beyond the stars, beyond the ancients’ gaze.
Soaring through skies of dusk, smoking tendrils trail behind.
The ground it shook and the fires awoke, deep within his mind.
And the roar that was a whisper grew vile and enraged,
The whole of the world, basking in it’s light...
Oh, the words had long escaped him
In the calmness of that place
For what he gaze upon that night
Was the end of everything...
And oh, the words, they long escaped him
In the horror of that place
And all his world fell burning
All and all...

The Inferno
04:50
|
|||
The leaves above curl and burst as the flames jet from below
Bellows of scorching winds sting his eyes and assault his throat.
Where once-proud oaks once proudly stood thousands of years,
A dismal plain of barren wastes gives new meaning to fear.
A sea rose before him
And all the world became undone
The ‘morrow brings the emptiness
Of the ones he loved.
See the light and flickering beauty
In a wretched world of rot.
Gaze long enough and you’ll find
That hope is not far gone...
And no matter what becomes
He must see that life blossoms still
As the flames spout and devour
He must see those reach the light.

Doom Must Come to Pass
05:00
|
|||
Risen from ashes, life blossoms anew
On the wings of dust and defeat
The lands lay in ache, fevers and clouds
Calling out for the ashen-hearted…
That grey old one, who cannot die
Walks those barrens in dream-like despair.
Silence has tread since that eve of long dread
Broken boughs long crumbled to dust...
And a thunder roared deep in his heart
A storm of disquiet with tomorrow’s sun
He knew that doom ere long would come
The doom that must come to pass...
So they came with the ashen grey
That heaved wickedly up from the east
Bourne on two legs and upon iron beasts
Spewing their poisons forth…
His rage gave way on the last of those days
And he burst furiously into the fray
Many lives went down screaming
And he dealt death on that morning wind.

The Hunter
05:17
|
|||
The hunter prowled in through the dark -
Fire in his eyes and hate in his heart
For in his world of cruelty and machines
There is no place for natural things.
And silence blazed beneath those stars
One of youth, another of elder might
The hunter took aim, and with it thunder came
And a God’s blood was spilled that night
And all that has been must come to pass
As the last light of day will fade.
No matter how dark these days may seem
And all that has ever been is one...
Here I lay, remnant of a bygone age...
Broken roots entwining...
My lifeblood pools beneath, staining the Earth
The stars now beckon me home...
And after all these years that have come to be,
We still fight all there is that’s wrong.
May there come a day where we fear no more,
And raise our voices as one…
Omnia mors aequat (death makes all things equal)...
