I woke one night from horrid 'scapes with a sense of urgency The stars ahead shown radiantly... I walked as the hills changed shape and familiar sights appeared. My heart began thumping away... But as I woke, the colours of it all became so clear... All songs fade... My gun as a means to an end - I should have felt the shame as the images began to fade... But my eyes opened wide once more - to my heart of hearts, I saw The pain now washing away... And as I rose, the meaning of it all became so clear... All songs fade... And as we age, the meaning of it all disappears... All songs fade...

Hey you, walkin' in moonlight, Where do you think you are? Where do you find the heart to walk the path you seek? I came runnin' when you called my name. Came runnin' all through the night. And now when I gaze upon you, My hands tremble at your sight... Sorceress, you have tricked me, like so many men before. I hope and pray forgiveness, 'cause my battle has only begun... Hey you, walkin' in moonlight, Where do you think you are? Where do you find the heart to walk the path you seek?

A fell wind flows down upon the feet of all they grew; his dying breath sewn upon the granite of her tomb. Whispers of dreams long-faded, lost to antiquity... He told her once that he would build a cabin by the sea... "I will never leave your side. Though your shadow often drowns mine; so the story goes, 'til dust becomes, and we will grow..." And though he walked until he felt the tide atop his toes, nothing could quell the sorrow that he felt within his bones. Long he gazed thoughtfully toward the open sea; Time will heal all our wounds, then time will let us be. And the words began to fade from the page, as though they were never written to last an age. The winds sighed the sweetest melodies - It's only listeners - the rocks and the trees... I was the wind and you, the rain. And we will sleep dreamlessly again. After all we had, my dear... Roots now grow and wrap themselves along that seaside cove; the waves and winds the only voices heard and to be known. He told her once that he would build a cabin by the sea, but some songs fade before they're made - it's best to let them be.

Mothers weep, while the tide sinks away, knowing the tale has been spun. To those, we sing our greatest melodies; Our voices every clearest on the waves... Upon jewelled thrones, now, we sit and act our part. Through endless oceans, with our stone hearts. Lost before the memory could root and take it's start. We lost it all in this hallowed earth... With pride we sailed onward into dusk, it's wines still flavoured on our tongues. And though they'd write our poems all their lives, our bones sunk beneath the blackened waves... Upon jewelled thrones, now, we sit and act our part. Through endless oceans, with our stone hearts. Lost before the memory could root and take it's start. We lost it all in this hallowed earth...

Kerosene 04:47
Kerosene, burn softly. Keep the light against the dark... No patterns emerge for me, besides the madness in the night. Kerosene, burn brightly. Make me imagine what could have been. In the bright white silence, I'll learn all there is to learn... What could have been had we stayed along that path? Here marks the end, at the bottom of the bottle... I am alone now, bearing the pain of old. The light is fading and it grows terribly cold. The stars were in my eyes as the dream began to fade. Waters came up to my hips and into the sea I'd wade... What could be said to forgive and forget? Those wounds may never heal, and they may never let them. How does one let go of the blood we share? Here's to the end, and the bottom of my bottle...
6.
Let the lapping waters' edge come and bear you far, far away... Will you rise and meet the dawn when your love has drifted on, astray? How will it meet you? We've drifted ever closer, my dear... Come and taste the rains of May and the shiver as the day greets night. Those same frigid waters play as a tempest in the bar, far from sight... How will it greet you? I'd give it all to be far from here... Riding the tide, we sailed on 'til dawn. As young as we were, those memories lingered on... The hope and the fear, and all that we held dear surged as we made for shore... The waters boil and rage as the hulls now heave and sway in the tide... We only had one final chance as we stole a single glance at flight... How will it meet you? We gave it all that we could, my dear...

I've been watching my shadows grow long as the last light of day stands tall. And before the dusk devours me and brings about my end, The words, I know will survive. We had tried to build a life as we dreamt but our failure wasn't ours to command. And before we draw the waters from our bountiful old age, that well I know has run dry... Must we always cast our gaze upon the shore as oblivions' fiery maw grows wide? And before we cast our sails and voyage to the dawn, leave all that'd been trouble aside. Surely, my love, there'll be another way, as we open our eyes upon a new day. And before we take a breath and set foot through that door, these words, I know, will abide...

I recall those days when the sun refused to shine; contempt lay in every step I took. Bitter was the brine in every sip and sup until that day my eyes found your light. Woken to a better day where all we'd dreamt had come - I lay and count the stars above... And now you shine brighter than the sun; your failures behind you in ruins lay. Take what you want and leave this place in peace; but what you came for was a piece of me... Pretend that all those lies would never change a thing. Breath deeply, now we've found the light... Come closer, now, pretend you see the light. Drink deeply that last poison from your cup. We'd never known what laid for us in wait. For all those days we've known, it's better we were late. Its better we were... Woken to a better day where all we'd dreamt had come - I lay and count the stars above... Pretend that all those lies would never change a thing. Breath deeply, now we've found the light... Pride in withered times...

I laid my head down by the rocks, beneath an ocean of stars. (Surrendering...) Sleep took me quickly there that night there was no sound, no firelight. (None that night...) And I know that those plains lay there, beyond the vaults of sleep. And that you've always been there laying in wait. I was quick to see the light, and I chased those ambers skies. (Now I know...) That all those dreams I'd paved along the way began crumbling every day. (Now they're gone...) And I know that somewhere out there in the vast eternity you have always been there laying in wait... to hold and to keep... I lost my way and all I'd longed to change, along that withered road... We'd sing all day of a world in disarray while we were in from the rain... All that bounty I'd longed for will never fill that void of yours. (It never will...) As our story climbs its final wrung, extinguished 'neath all we'd lived and done. (Now its gone...) And I know the love between us will blossom when we're gone, when all the world has shown its fangs and its claws. And I know that somewhere out there in the vast eternity that you've always been there laying in wait... To hold and keep... I lost my way and all I'd longed to change, along that withered road... We'd sing all day of a world in disarray while we were in from the rain... I lost my way and all I'd long to change, while I was in from the rain...

Drink deep the waters; bring forth your grief to me. Cast aside your burdens high; no need to despair. Fill your lungs once more... No matter your path, your tread led astray. Neither love nor loss; all blood joins these waves... Farewell, my friend. Farewell for now... Parting ways and passing days - a distant requiem. All must come to be, somehow... No matter your path, your tread led astray. Neither love nor loss; all blood joins these waves...

I woke one day from some wicked dream I couldn't escape. The thorns - they tore, and they bore me away from this place. I lost my way by those grand, old gates built of fire and rot. Choking smoke; I caught a glimpse of the golden boughs beyond... Love is the answer; love is all we need, to brace us for the storm, for our miseries... Love is the answer - it is the golden key. Remove your crown, now, tell me what you see... In my grief, I walked deeper into that blight. Surrounded by death and ravenous eyes on every side. The dream was real, and I knew it from the heat and the fear. The path was clear and I ran those last miles to the light... Love is the answer; love is all we need, to brace us for the storm, for our miseries... Love is the answer - it is the golden key. Remove your crown, now, tell me what you see... Love is the answer; love is all we need, to brace us for the storm, for our miseries... Love is the answer - it is the golden key. Remove your crown, now, tell me what you see...

about

Deep Dark River is the debut solo album by Canadian songwriter, lyricist and multi-instrumentalist Morgan Rider.

This album is a collection of songs written with adventure in mind, fire in the heart, and the colourings of a spirit culminated through a life swathed in triumph, defeat, joy and woe. This album is a story for music fans and casual listeners alike.

THIS IS A 100% DIGITAL RELEASE. NO PHYSICAL COPIES WILL BE MANUFACTURED. The world as we know it is on the brink of an inescapable decline as pollution levels soar ever higher and vibrant marine and land habitats are eradicated by human activity. Industrialization, deep sea mining, urban expansion and the ever growing human population is opening a wound on our beautiful world that will not be healed until we as a species are long gone.

I may not have the power as an individual to change or alter the course that we have created and guided ourselves in unwittingly, but whatever small difference I can make is a triumph in my eyes.

Although I will not have this particular album manufactured in any way, I have made sure to allow a 'PAY WHAT YOU WANT' option. ALL FUNDS GENERATED BY THIS RELEASE WILL BE DONATED to help combat the plastics crisis in the world's oceans, help save animal habitats, help the rehabilitation of species in decline and move toward a brighter, cleaner future.

Thank you all for your understanding, love and support!
